Dale Earnhardt Jr. to Pilot Menards Chevrolet at Charlotte

Mooresville, NC – Dale Earnhardt Jr. is among 20 NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series drivers scheduled to compete in the Dollar General 300 NASCAR Busch Series race Friday night at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Earnhardt Jr. is entered in the No. 8 Menards Chevrolet fielded by Dale Earnhardt, Inc.

One only needs to look at the record books to see that Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s on track record with Menards Racing has been stout.  In nine races carrying the Menards branding on his Chevrolet, Earnhardt Jr. has went to Victory Lane an impressive three times, including two wins in 2006.

Earnhardt Jr. has won races for Menards at Bristol, Daytona and Michigan.  Success at a variety of tracks proves Earnhardt Jr. can win anytime, at any track and his next opportunity to bring home this win in the Dollar General 300.

“It’s been good to race the Menards car these last few years.Vegas” Earnhardt Jr. said.  “They’ve been a good sponsor for DEI and we’ve had a lot of success in the Busch races we’ve run.”

Earnhardt Jr. is still looking for his first NASCAR Busch Series win at Charlotte.  Despite having three top-five finishes in seven starts at the track, Earnhardt Jr. is hoping to get that first Busch win at Charlotte in this weekend’s Dollar General 300.

“We definitely enter these races to win,” Earnhardt Jr. said of his goals for this weekend’s Dollar General 300.

Earnhardt Jr. will race a car previously run by his teammate Paul Menard at Chicagoland Speedway in July.  Menard qualified 21st and finished sixth in the race, but since then the car has been completely rebuilt and customized for Charlotte by the Dale Earnhardt Inc. Busch Series crew.

And while Earnhardt Jr. has also yet to record a Nextel Cup win at Charlotte, this weekend’s NASCAR Busch Series race could provide the perfect spring board for the driver of the No. 8 to bring home a double victory at his hometown race track.

“It definitely helps the driver to have extra seat time at the intermediate tracks,” Crew Chief Mike Grechi said.  “He’ll be on track Friday night so he’ll have a good idea of how the track will feel as the temperature drops and that’s something that will come in handy for Saturday night’s Cup race.”
